Jan Komasa Masterclass and Public Screening + Talk

Activity: Disseminating Research Exhibition/Festival

Description

The University of Aberdeen hosted the brilliantly talented film director Jan Komasa for a screening of his Oscar-nominated film Corpus Christi. This was preceded by a masterclass during which Jan shared his insights with students from University of Aberdeen LLMVC and the School of Divinity, History, Philosophy and Art History.
We were absolutely thrilled to be able to support our friends at Polish Association Aberdeen and our amazing colleagues in Film & Visual Culture Abdn and the George Washington Wilson Centre at the University of Aberdeen, with both events. Alejandra Rodriguez-Remedi and Calum Waddell, lecturers in Film and Visual Culture, opened the evening screening and introduced Komasa's filmography respectively, and the Elphinstone Institute's Nicolas Le Bigre chaired the Q&A. The screening was a great success, with over 70 attendees including the Vice-Consul of Poland.
We are profoundly thankful to Jan for being so generous with his time and for sharing his expertise on filmmaking with our students and the attendees. His discussion of film showed how it can connect across disciplines and ways of thinking in order to comment in profound ways on everyday life and humanity.
Special thanks to co-organisers Silvia Casini and Mateusz Lagoda, who were essential in making the events happen. The screening and masterclass were part of the Polish-Scottish Mini Festival and also Tofifest Film Festival and we hope to support similar events with our friends and colleagues in future.
