A response the national discussion on Scottish education that argues that Religious and Moral Education in non-denominational schools must escape the shackles of legislation forged in 1872. In particular the subject should consider wisdom traditions equally, have dedicated leaders in schools, be liberated from the conscientious withdrawal clause, no longer be mandatory in the senior school, and finally be uncoupled from Religious Observance.
