Biography
I am a Consultant Surgeon specialising in complex liver, pancreas and bile duct diseases with a specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and the development of modern surgical innovations.
I completed my higher degree (MD) at the University of Leeds, working with an internationally renowned team researching organ preservation. I did the pioneering work on cold liver preservation techniques, developing a novel liver preservation solution. My work was funded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England via a research fellowship. I completed my higher surgical training in Mid Trent Higher Surgical Rotation, before being appointed as a Consultant HPB Surgeon in NHS Grampian. I hold academic appointments at the University of Aberdeen as an Honorary Professor and a visiting Professor at Robert Gordon University. I also serve on the Court of Examiners for the RCSEng (Royal College of Surgeons of England) and JCIE (Joint Committee of Intercollegiate Examinations).
With a broad research base, I have published in all aspects of my areas of clinical interest. With more than 100 peer-review publications (book chapters, review, editorials, original articles, etc.) and more than 100 scientific presentations, I remain at the forefront of the latest surgical developments and innovations. I have received several awards throughout my career including five medals, merit scholarships and various presentation awards on international forums.
I am faculty for various international courses and teach advanced laparoscopic skills to the surgeons worldwide. I am involved in developing telemedicine & telementoring for young surgeons using modern technologies.
