Abstract

In the title salt, 2C(7)H(12)N(3)O(2)(+.)H(5)O(2)(+.)3C(7)H(5)N(2)O(7)S(-), strong hydrogen bonding from the donor (H5O2+) group links to 4-methyl-3,5-dinitrobenzenesulfonate anions. The dihydronium (H5O2+) cation could be considered intermediate between clearly distinct (H3O)(+) and H2O entities and an '(H5O2)(+)' entity, although it tends to be closer to the former; the (OO)-O-... distance is 2.434 (3) angstrom. Strong hydrogen bonding leads to the formation of chains along the [ 010] direction.
