This paper examines the applicability of BRT in the Chinese context. It starts by discussing the issue of rapid motorization and the motivation to introduce a BRT scheme in China, and then presents a SWOT analysis to identify the applicability of BRT systems in Chinese cities. This paper analyzes the impact of the ITS-led Southern Axis BRT Line 1, Beijing and concludes by identifying some key issues for the future implementation of BRT systems.
