Editor's View - Falls management and prevention

It is now four years since this journal published the first World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management in Older Adults [1]. Since then it has been viewed or downloaded from our website around half a million times at the time of writing. In our August issue, we publish a systematic review of cohort studies that have validated the guideline’s risk stratification tool [2]. It finds that no study implemented the guideline’s algorithm as published, with several modifications suggested. High-risk fallers were identified with high specificity but moderate sensitivity, while those classified as intermediate-risk only had marginally higher falls than the lowest risk group.
