Abstract
course can be quite a daunting one, and the change from a directed teaching and learning environment into one that is very much more self-directed can, for some students, be both confusing and exciting or for others upsetting and frustrating. Either way, if the experience for them is managed in an appropriate fashion, then both sets of students (and any combination of types of students) would potentially gain from the experience, or at least, not be negatively influenced by it.
The topic of graduate attributes (GAs) is a prime area for discussion in the FE and HE sectors, indeed also in the compulsory education sector, and it is no longer seen appropriate for students, at any level, to simply be awarded a knowledge-based qualification in a subject area without also developing the employment, discipline- based or indeed life skills and attributes that accompany it.
The objective of this workshop was to encourage participants to think about:
•
what attributes should our students leave college with from an HN perspective?
•
what attributes should degree level students leave with?
•
what we can do to make the experience of transition from one to the other more appropriate and useful for the students concerned.
The intention was also to share good practice, and suggestions for good practice, between the two organisations.
