Abstract

Further experimental results are presented concerning the transverse loading of simply supported tubes supplementing those given in ref. (1). Surface stresses are examined by means of the brittle laquer technique and strain gauges. The influence of the geometrical parameters on the modes of deformation of the tubes is discussed in general terms.
