Nutrition and infectious disease

Abstract

Since Ancient Greece, humanity has realized the power of nutrition in health. In this article, we describe the recent work on the interactions between nutrition, immunity and infection that allowed a better understanding of the astounding mechanisms through which nutrition modulates the immune system when fighting against virus, bacteria, fungi, and other parasite infections. We present the physiological and nutritional responses triggered by immune activation, and the current knowledge on the molecular pathways that generate these responses.
