Philo and the Garden of Eden: An Exegete, his Text and his Tools

Jutta Leonhardt-Balzer

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingPublished conference contribution

Abstract

The contribution studies Philo's references to the name "Eden". It turns out that he consistently interprets it as "joy", even in passages where this is not relevant. The contribution demonstrates on the basis of his quotations of the biblical text that he used an exegetical tool on the term, a kind of Florilegium or concordance for his interpretation of the relevant passages.
