Abstract

The reaction of HCOOH has been investigated over the surfaces of UO2(1 1 1) single crystal and polycrystalline UO2. Two channels for formate decomposition were observed, between 500 and 700 K, by TPD and IR. The first consisted of CO and CO2 while the second was mainly due to CO2. Quantitatively both single crystal and powder surfaces showed similar product distribution with small formation of ethylene in the single crystal case only.
