We thank Simpson et al. (2022) for raising questions that advance the discussion of the impact of tillage practice on soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks as estimated in our paper (Cai et al., 2022). We recognize that all research has its limitations and there can be multiple valid ways to interpret the same dataset; however, we believe our approach provided a valuable way to represent and utilize available data to infer depth and time dependent effects of no-tillage on SOC stocks...
