Abstract

We are grateful Gokce et al. (2012) for their comments concerning our recently published study (Shayeb et al., 2011). We would like to clarify from the outset that the aim of our study was not to prove the presence of a cause and effect link between obesity (or being underweight) and poorer semen quality. The aim of our study was to find out, in a large population, if there is an association between male body mass index (BMI) and semen quality. We would like to reaffirm our principal findings of a significant association between high male body mass index and abnormally low semen volume and poor sperm morphology.
