It is a privilege to present this policy paper, ‘Shaping Our Future: Trust in Artificial Intelligence,’ at a time when the transformative power of AI is reshaping our world and redefining our approach to technological advancement. The potential of artificial intelligence to drive groundbreaking innovations is immense, yet it is accompanied by significant risks that warrant careful consideration. In this paper, we, as researchers engaged in the study of AI, explore the important role of trust in AI interactions. Our aim is to highlight how essential it is for policymakers to address the complex. We note that addressing existing policy gaps while staying ahead of emerging challenges is crucial. We propose a framework for thinking about AI that balances the benefits of innovation with the associated risks, placing trust at the core of this framework. Our paper outlines two key strategies: national approaches to build a robust foundation for trust and international strategies to foster global cooperation and trust in AI.
