Embedding the industrial content into Engineering teaching: insight into real life R&D challenges

Activity: Disseminating Research Presentation

Activity

The poster was presented on the topic.

Our experience in participating in numerous industrial projects devoted to optimal design of composite and steel pipes is incorporated into teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The students’ understanding of the material is enhanced by applying the knowledge learnt in real-life problems through the use of individual/group projects that combine theoretical knowledge, numerical modelling and industrial applications. By completing the projects, the students have become more resilient in the engineering field, and due to this their attractiveness has increased for future employers.

The resilience of students participating in the projects is developed through them tackling problems which they have not encountered before, and combining theoretical background, numerical modelling, industrial applications. We use our experience from participating in numerous industrial projects to guide our students along their path of discovering the engineering field.

Description

The Theme for the blended Annual Academic Development Symposium aligned with the current QAA Scotland Enhancement Theme, ‘Resilient Learning Communities’. The Symposium provided an opportunity for participants to engage with and discuss the current Theme and to network with colleagues.
