Two Speed Britain:Rural Internet Use (5th September 2015)

Press/Media: Research

Description

The gap between urban and rural broadband speeds in the UK risks damaging business, increases farming costs and could be forcing young people to move away from the areas where they grew up, according to new research from the Oxford Internet Institute and the dot.rural RCUK Digital Economy Research Hub at the University of Aberdeen.

The 'Two-Speed Britain: Rural Internet Use' study shows that more than one million people are excluded or face challenges in conducting normal online activities because they live in remote, rural areas not connected to high-speed broadband.
