Abstract
Industrial revolution of the late 16th–21st centuries not only transformed a number of European and North American countries from predominantly rural and agricultural to urban and industrial, but is perceived by many as an incubator for the growth of Great Britain's status to the level of a great trading nation. However, as the American researcher Alzada Comstock argued, the source of Britain's wealth was discovered even before the industrial revolution and represented its colonialism and trade, which were based on the principles and practices of mercantilism1.
