Basil yamey (1919–2020): A reflection on his contribution to accounting history

Basil Yamey, who died on November 9, 2020 at the age of 101, was presented with the Hourglass Award of the Academy of Accounting Historians for the most notable contribution to the literature of accounting history in 1976 (jointly with Osamu Kojima for their edited edition of Ympyn's A notable and very excellent woorke) and in 1992 for his book, Art and Accountancy. As an economist who did his accounting history research for fun, that was a remarkable double achievement, made even more remarkable by the at least 50 articles, chapters, or books on accounting history he published between 1940 and 2012. It is doubtful we shall ever again see anyone publishing and contributing to the history of accounting quite like Basil Yamey...
