Abstract
Composer, conductor, writer and administrator.
Largely self-taught as a musician, Chávez began to champion Stravinsky’s

Europe and the UNITED STATES. From 1928 to 1949, he was the principal
conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de México (OSM). In that role, and later
with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, he programmed Stravinsky’s music
frequently.
