Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the layer of international environmental obligations applicable to the marine environment that are applicable to the UK despite its departure from the EU. It provides a general overview of the relevant obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and other relevant international legal instruments that are applicable to the protection and preservation of the marine environment. It concludes that, despite Brexit, these obligations must still be adhered to, and have been illustrated to have effect through the establishment of the Fisheries Act 2020, as outlined in Chapter 5.
