Abstract
This essay presents observations and interpretations that arise when the "cultural pattern" category is applied to the search for the intellectual forces driving the production of the literature found in the Hebrew Bible. It therefore focuses less on, for example, the key ethical or theological concepts we find in that literature, and more on the cultural patterns that generated those concepts. The essay thus explores the cognitive "area" where the intellectual constellations were formed that gave rise to such concepts.
