Abstract

A new platinum group mineral (PGM) occurrence is described from the Dooros serpentinite in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. The ~470Ma Dooros serpentinite intruded the Dalradian Cornamona Formation during the Grampian Orogeny. The mineral phase identified as stibiopalladinite has the stoichiometric formula: ƸPd+Pt+Cu4.99-5.08 ƸSb+As1.92-2.02 . This particular PGM occurrence in the Dooros serpentinite extends the range of platinum group element mineralisation in the Irish and British Caledonides.
