Fish cytokine genes

Relatively few cytokine and cytokine receptor genes had been sequenced in fish prior to EST and genome studies. The number of sequences is rapidly increasing and demonstrates the complexity of the cytokine network in fish. Several interesting differences to known mammalian and chicken genes are apparent, although in most cases whether such differences result in functional consequences has still to be determined.
