Abstract

Human communication is a fundamental activity that facilitates the exchange of signals, information and knowledge between groups of people. The effectiveness of communication can be influenced by a variety of different factors related to the nature of the people involved and the types of mechanism used for its facilitation. This chapter discusses the nature of human communication and the ways in which electronic performance support tools can be used to influence its effectiveness in terms of Communication Competence (CC). A case study is presented which describes how an Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) environment can be used to provide support for people who are involved in providing an awareness and understanding of dyslexia and the effects that it can have on communication competencies.
