title = "Lancashire",
abstract = "Lancashire remains a culturally significant entity, despite its reduction in size owing to several local government boundary changes since 1974. This chapter begins by summarising some cultural viewpoints relevant when planning research on language variation in Lancashire. It also discusses features of Lancashire phonology, morphology, and syntax that have been the subject of recent study. In addition, it considers some possible future developments in Lancashire English, including the extent to which a single “Lancashire” label will continue to be appropriate, and sets out some practical advice about the process of gathering data in Lancashire.
