N2 - Over the last years, dementia research has attracted wide-ranging criticism due to the lack of advancements in both diagnosis and treatments, despite substantial investments and the formation of large international research networks. It has been repeatedly emphasised that early diagnosis would be key for early intervention, however, the reasons for failing clinical trials are likely more complex, and due to an incomplete understanding of multi-factorial causes and disease mechanisms, alongside the long overdue need for patient stratification.
