Abstract
30min practice-as-research film developed from the painting, Am Palais, by Lyonel Feininger, held in the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, CA, of an urban scene in the city of Weimar, Germany. The film reflects on the setting of Weimar’s cultural legacy embodied by Goethe, Schiller, Bach and the Bauhaus School's 'Master of Form', Lyonel Feininger. The title and dark foreboding of Feininger’s painting becomes a catalyst for investigating what lies Am Palais – ‘near the palace’ – the interventions of Adolf Hitler and the creation of Buchenwald.
