Norbert Miller: Marblemania

It takes a certain chutzpah to give a book about the neoclassical antiquities trade the same title as an exhibition (with catalogue) on a fairly similar subject, which was shown in London in 2001. Only a scholar of Norbert Miller's rank, who is undoubtedly one of the most important connoisseurs of the era, can afford this. Miller's monographs on Giambattista Piranesi, Horace Walpole and William Beckford have done pioneering work, especially for the German-speaking world, and have opened up these exponents of a dark classicism for the first time.
