Orientations and Orientalism: The Governor Sir Ronald Storrs

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The main idea of this article came to my mind while studying O,rientations, the book of the first Civilian Governor of Jerusalem Sir Ronald Storrs. As I was reading his text I found myself surprised by all his Orientalist preoccupations. Before looking for potential links between the British Imperial rule in Palestine and Orientalism, we need to define what Orientalism is. The second section will analyse the background of Sir Ronald Storrs, and the third will examine his perception of Zionism. The fourth section focuses on Storrs' perspectives of the Arabs in order to highlight his Orientalism, and the final section concludes by analysing the interaction between Orientalism and Imperialism.
