N2 - Last November 6th a group of Chilean marine conservation scientists claimed for the recognition of the Mapuche-Huichille indigenous peoples' rights over Guafo island, a threatened bio-cultural hotspot of the northern Patagonia. They demanded the Chilean government to recognize the contribution of this community to marine conservation through the designation of a Marine and Coastal Area for Indigenous Peoples (MCAIP or ECMPO in Spanish)
