Abstract

This chapter assesses the Africa Mining Vision (AMV) potency in promoting cooperation in African-rich resource countries mining governance framework that will in turn facilitate resource-based sustainable socio-economic growth and development in Africa. It analyses resource development and the resource curse thesis in Africa using only Nigerian experience due to word-limit constraints. The chapter analyses the essentials of the AMV as a regional mining governance regime. AMV offers a framework for integrating the sector more coherently and firmly into the continent's economy and society. As such, some generic features of the AMV are examined against some known benchmarks of international and regional cooperation frameworks to evaluate its effectiveness in commandeering cooperation in mining governance in Africa that will lead to resource-based socio-economic development. However, the non-binding nature of the AMV, which leads to non-domestication by member states, has meant that the potency of the AMV in promoting cooperation in African mining governance is questionable.
