Abstract
On March 7, 2024, Sweden officially became the thirty-second member of the Alliance, following an accession process that lasted almost two years. On May 16, 2022, the Swedish government formalized its decision to join NATO. This step towards NATO seems to break with the policy of neutrality and non-alignment adopted by Sweden since the 19th century . If the Russian invasion in Ukraine catalyzed this move into action, this decision remains above all the logical outcome of a thirty-year rapprochement between Sweden and the Alliance and the result of a strategic exposure.
