Request for "social egg freezing"

Women in the 21st century are choosing to delay motherhood for many reasons including the pursuit of educational and career aspirations and social equality. Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) and ‘social egg freezing’ (oocyte cryopreservation) offer women without current male partners the potential to defer pregnancy until they are in an emotionally and financially stable relationship. Embryo cryopreservation is already established as a safe and relatively successful treatment but the limited data on outcomes of oocyte cryopreservation suggest that it remains ‘experimental’. Professional societies have called for robust clinical trials as well as long term outcome studies to establish the safety of the technology. The concept of social egg freezing has triggered debate, and has inevitably, captured the publics' imagination, yet ethical opinion remains divided.
