Abstract
Based on recent ethnographic and archival doctoral research with Soiots and Oka-Buriats in Okinskii Raion of westernmost Buriatiia, this contribution examines local perceptions of imperial, Soviet, and contemporary roadways in the sentient landscapes of the Eastern Saian Mountains. Soiot and Oka-Buriats share a heritage of hunting and pastoral practices, which are intimately interwoven with the perception of a sacred landscape.
