Abstract
In this paper, we develop a methodology for optimum sizing of a hybrid renewable energy system with and without battery backup. The considered hybrid system consists of three energy sources-wind turbine, PV system and diesel generator. Among them, two sources are renewable and one is fossil fuel. Load consumption data as well as solar radiation and wind speed data throughout the year in Mauritius Island at a Solar Park and Fort George Power Station and EOLE wind farm is analyzed and simulated in MOHRES to assess the technical and economic viability of the integrated system. Several scenarios are developed and the performance of each scenarios is tested and evaluated.
