Abstract

Considers Owens (Jordan) v HM Advocate (HCJ Appeal) upholding a punishment part of 23 years on a sentence of life imprisonment for murder by discharging a firearm, and for attempted murder using the same weapon, during a gang fight. Discusses firearm terminology, types of handgun, their operation, the injuries caused by small calibre handguns and the minimum sentence for possession of prohibited weapons under the Firearms Act 1968 s.51A.
