Abstract
For decades complex agreements between airlines have kept air fares artificially high in Europe. This article outlines the political dimension of these agreements; examines attempts by the European Commission, through the Treaty of Rome's anti-trust rules, to challenge airlines' price cartels; and discusses the political, economic and environmental impacts which deregulation of Europe's air routes may have. -A.C.Passey
