Abstract

Providing specialist support for people with long-term conditions in remote and rural areas can be challenging. A teleconsultation service was set up for delivering specialist diabetes care for the Orkney Islands in August 2008. There are currently 1,035 people on the diabetes register and 13 general practice surgeries are the main providers for diabetes care. We conducted an audit of the patients that were supported by the teleclinic service between 2008 and 2013.
