Abstract

The EU-funded project »TNT - The Neanderthal Tools« aimed to collect all information about Neanderthals in an interactive database. The result was the set-up of the scientific online database NESPOS (Neanderthal Studies Professional Online Service). This platform is the first worldwide accessible internet service for palaeoanthropologists and archaeologists that provides the opportunity to collect and archive digital data of Neanderthals. It is also a platform for collaboration for scientists who work with state-of-the-art digital data of human fossils and organic artefacts. The digitalisation of German Neanderthal fossils as well as making these data available through the NESPOS platform is the first step to more collaboration in Neanderthal research.
