Abstract
30min practice-as-research film that explores the idea of a national border through making links between events surrounding 9/11 and the current Mexican border/wall controversy, incorporating themes of national trauma, protectionism, immigration, idealism and patriotism. In his first extended interview since 9/11, Over a game of chess, Judge Robert Bonner, former Commissioner of US Borders and Customs and head of the US Drug Enforcement Administration, discusses his response and role in securing the country's borders during 9/11 and in the days and years that followed as his department morphed into Homeland Security. Research and filming undertaken in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington D.C. and the Mexican border.
