Abstract

Ten physiology educators from four countries shared our experiences of rapidly transitioning on-campus face-to-face physiology laboratories to remote online mode in response to COVID-19 associated restrictions. Our discussions prompted the research question: ‘Does a switch to online laboratories solve the financial and ethical issues typically associated with face-to-face physiology laboratories?’. This study compares the financial, logistical, and ethical pressures experienced by educators and discusses ways in which these can be addressed when operating face-to-face, hybrid, or fully online labs. The study also discusses issues surrounding digital equity and how international students may be fully integrated with classes if working remotely.
