Abstract

This article compares the unions of Saxony with Poland-Lithuania and Hanover with Great Britain. It analyses the similarties and differences between the two unions, arguing that while the Hanoverians broadly respected the political system in Britain, working within it, Poland-Lithuania's Saxon monarchs did not.
